Vignette in graphic design is used to frame an image. Visually I find this to be very dramatic and useful to achieve a verity of effects and emotions in the images I produce.
In general I’ll use a dark frame vignette to center attrition and provide a sense of depth. I also find the contrast variations vignetting provides pleasing to the eye and helpful for focus. But the creativity doesn’t need to stop there. Vignettes can also be colors, patterns, shapes and more.
However, steer clear the cheese. The hokiness of ’92 era holiday themed photos from the 1-Hour Development Center left a long lasting and unfair impression of the vignette. A bad taste in my minds eye I’m gradually washing away.
So the future of vignette is bright, as long as we maintain moderation. Happy Vignetting!
